A few months ago, I wrote an article about things I no longer buy since trying to become a minimalist. You can read it HERE. I spoke about general everyday items that I didn’t feel the need to purchase anymore or wasn’t useful to me. That list still stands, and even more articles are now on it. Especially in the beauty department! If you know me, you know I love beauty and skincare but lately, they don’t have a pivotal role in my life even though I still enjoy being pampered and creating awesome new looks!
Here are 10 items I either stopped purchasing or reduced my consumption of…
Nail polish
Like every girl, I love getting my nails done and because I do my nails, I always purchased new colors. 2 years ago, I had about 50 nail polishes but only used about 3-4 colors regularly. It’s pointless for me to have that many colors given I love neutral colors only. I ended up giving away most of my nail polishes to my friends and family and only repurchase the colors I like wearing.
Eye shadow pallets
Let’s say you purchase a 12 color eye shadow pallet, are you going to be using the 12 colors? Probably not! I would use up my 2-3 favorite colors than the rest would hang there until it expires. Instead, I started to purchase single colors that I know I love and suits my skin color. If I purchase a palette, I always make sure I like the majority of the colors and that it will be worth the money I’m investing in it!
Liquid lipstick
I love liquid lipsticks, but they do not suit me personally. You can see the cracks appear after an hour, which is not nice especially if you have dry lips from the start! This last year, I found a new love for glosses that suit my lips a lot more, and that is what I have been wearing daily.
Primers and Foundation
I only wear primers under my foundation, but because I no longer buy foundations, my need for primers left as well! It takes me 2 years to finish a foundation because of how rarely I wear it (mostly winter time). I have quite clear skin, and I do not feel the need to hide in under a foundation anymore.
Shaving cream
In the past, I did laser on a few parts of my body, and it was the best money I spend in my life. Hence, I don’t need shaving creams or razors anymore. But even if you need to shave, you can use conditioner instead, it does the work!
Shampoos
I still use shampoo but a lot less than before. I wash my hair once a week only instead of every other day like I used to. This saves me time and money!
Serums
I never really understood the point of serums. Youtubers would use them and point out all the advantages, which made a lot of sense back then. Now my routine is so minimal and serums don’t add anything extra to my skin. Not only that but the more product I would put on my face, the more dependent I become of them. As soon as I would stop using them, my face would become so dry!
Sheet masks
This one is for financial reasons more than for the lifestyle. It’s ridiculously expensive, and you can only use it once! I rather purchase a normal mask jar and use it for the next few months instead. And while we are on the subject of masks, I also stopped masking every week like I always did and now only do it every other week instead.
Toners
Again, I do not understand the concept of toners. I tried so many toners (natural, drugstore, and high-end), and they always break me out. It doesn’t work with my skin type, so I just stopped using it!
I did mention some beauty items I no longer buy in my first article such as duplicates, impulse purchases, face wipes, cotton pads, and deodorants.
I hope you enjoyed this article, let me know if there is items you no longer use as well!
Until next time,
