If you ever wondered if something was missing in your skincare routine, I’m here to introduce the liquid exfoliant from BlissPro. If you’ve roamed the beauty section of my blog, you know I’m a minimalist in my skincare. I believe that less is best and only put what I believe to be the best products on my face. I do love to experiment, but I am not an influencer who has 10 different moisturizers on rotation with a 15-step skincare routine (Ain’t nobody got time or money for all of that!).
I was shopping at Ulta, and as a Canadian, I can’t go to the US without stopping there. I found this liquid exfoliant that caught my attention. I already love the Bliss brand and have only good things to say about them. So, let me tell you all about the liquid exfoliant from BlissPro, and then you can decide if it’s for you or not.
I do have to mention before I proceed that I have a normal to dry skin type.
What is a liquid exfoliant?
A liquid exfoliant is used to remove dead skin cells from the surface of your skin, revealing a fresher and smoother complexion. There are two main types of chemical exfoliants commonly used in liquid form: alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) and beta hydroxy acids (BHAs).
The former is a water-soluble acid derived from fruits, milk, or sugar. They work on the surface of the skin, helping to loosen and remove dead skin cells, improve skin texture, reduce the appearance of fine lines, and even out the skin tone. Common AHAs include glycolic acid (from sugarcane), lactic acid (from milk), and citric acid (from citrus fruits).
The latter is an oil-soluble acid that can penetrate into the pores of the skin. It’s particularly effective for individuals with oily or acne-prone skin, as it can unclog pores and reduce the formation of acne. The most well-known BHA is salicylic acid, which is derived from willow bark.
Liquid exfoliant vs scub
A liquid exfoliant is a liquid solution applied to the skin, typically using a pad or your fingertips. It contains chemical ingredients that help dissolve the bonds between dead cells.
Using a liquid exfoliant offers several benefits for your skin, including visibly improved tone and a smoother, brighter complexion through exfoliation, BHAs that penetrate pores to clear out debris resulting in unclogged and refined pores, AHAs that fade dark spots, sunspots, and hyperpigmentation for a more even skin tone, and regular exfoliation that stimulates collagen production, ultimately enhancing skin elasticity and firmness.
On the other hand, a scrub is a type of physical exfoliant containing abrasive particles that physically remove dead skin. (ei. The Wishful Yo Glow enzyme scrub)
Using a physical exfoliator provides immediate benefits like smoother texture by physically removing dead skin cells, enhanced absorption of skincare products due to the removal of the outer layer, temporary brightening from eliminating dullness, improved circulation through massaging, and the ability to target specific areas needing attention, such as rough patches. However, it’s important to control the frequency and pressure of use to prevent over-exfoliation and potential skin irritation, especially for sensitive skin types. Additionally, considering the environmental impact of non-biodegradable exfoliating particles is essential.
Ingredients of the Blisspro Liquid Exfoliant
Now returning to our review, the Blisspro liquid exfoliant features three major ingredients that classify it as a chemical exfoliator: AHA (from Glycolic Acid), BHA (from Salicylic Acid), and PHA (from Gluconolactone). As mentioned earlier, AHA works on the skin’s surface cell renewal, removing dead cells, brightening the complexion significantly, and improving tone and texture. BHA contributes to smoother skin and visibly tighter pores. Lastly, PHA allows for gentle exfoliation while attracting moisture.
Additionally, there are three antioxidants present: resveratrol, chamomile, and Ceramide NG. Each of these aids in protecting your skin, combating signs of aging and preventing moisture loss.
The inclusion of three different acids renders it suitable for all skin types. AHA is particularly beneficial for dry skin, BHA for oily skin, and PHA helps maintain hydration throughout the exfoliation process.
How to use the Blisspro Liquid Exfoliant
Begin by shaking the bottle thoroughly. Apply the liquid to your skin. Personally, I prefer using a facial cleansing silicone pad to ensure even distribution and penetration into my pores for a thorough cleanse. While the bottle suggests using it twice a day as a daily exfoliator, I find that using it every other day is more than sufficient. Leave the product on for a minute or two, then rinse it off with lukewarm water. Follow up with your moisturizer, or self-tanning drops!
During my initial usage, I left it on for a longer duration than recommended, which led to a burning sensation and significant redness on my face for several hours (restricting me from leaving my house). I recommend gradually building your tolerance and avoiding prolonged exposure at first. Additionally, you might experience a tingling sensation during the initial uses, but this is generally normal. If it persists or intensifies, stop using the product.
For those who use the product in the morning, it’s crucial to apply a moisturizer with SPF afterward. This is because the AHA and BHA ingredients can increase your skin’s sensitivity to sunlight.
