The will to win, the desire to succeed, the urge to reach your full potential… These are the keys that will unlock the door to personal excellence – Confucius.
Raise your hand if you have ever been on a long flight? If you live in Canada, you know that most flights are long-haul, and that’s not even counting the layovers! It can take a Canadian between 6 to 12 hours to get to France, depending on where they are in Canada. More than 15 hours to get to Japan. Or worst, 24 hours minimum to get to Australia! Fortunately for us, there are quite a few things we can do to make sure that our long-haul flights go as smoothly as possible!
Have all your flight essentials. I’m talking about neck pillows, eye masks, headphones, anything that will bring your body and mind peace. You will be stuck in the same position for a very long time, so you got to make that place the comfiest place ever! You should definitely charge all your electronics before your flight and bring your charger. Maybe invest in an external battery as well.
Your clothing matters. Forget about fashion and choose the comfortable path. Loose clothing, breathable material, and extra layers. Air Help has written the best article about what kind of fit you should be wearing, check it out here!
Choose your seat carefully. Get to the airport in advance and choose the best seat for you! You don’t want to sit next to the exit doors or the bathrooms. The front seats are good, but there is a good chance a kid will be close by, so it’s not the best. If you like to sleep, maybe a window seat is better for you. If you need the bathroom often, maybe get an aisle seat. Just remember this is a long-haul flight, and you need to be strategic with this decision.
Make sure you are in the best of health. Make sure you hydrate the day before and throughout your flight. Avoid any alcohol or caffeine. Maybe get to the gym or go on a walk, just so that your body spends its extra energy and be ready to stay in the same position.
Bring your own food. On a long flight, you usually get 1 or 2 meals and some snacks. Unfortunately, they are not always good or served when you are hungry. So bring the food you know will bring you joy, that way you don’t have to wait until you receive your meal!
Moisture versus makeup. Don’t put makeup on before your flight. Instead, moisturize your face and body a lot before, during, and after your flight. You can even bring a face mist if you prefer. In the last 30 minutes of the flight, you can put your makeup on or just wait to get to your hotel to do so.
Go on walks. Every free hour you should go on a walk between the aisles just to keep your blood flowing. Do some small stretches. The lack of oxygen for a long time can create dizziness, headaches and we just don’t want that!
